ARCHIVED ARTICLE -
The canoeing festival coincided with the international ‘Fight Against Breast Cancer Day’

Last Saturday, October 19, the international Dragon Boat Festival in tribute to Jan Collins took place at the nautical Activities Centre in Lo Pagán. The event was attended by the Mayor of San Pedro del Pinatar, Pedro Javier Sánchez and the Councillor for Sports, Pedro Vivancos.
The Pinatarense Sports Association played host to the event that has become over the years a great canoeing festival. The festival seeks to bring together paddlers from all over the world to honour the memory of Collins, founder of the BCS category which is devoted to breast cancer survivors.

In this edition, dragon boat crews from Pontevedra, Castellón, Torrevieja, Cartagena, San Javier or San Pedro del Pinatar among others have participated. At the international level there were even teams from the United States and Canada.
Throughout the morning, there were dragon boat races in several different categories. The atmosphere was fantastic and the weather was perfect for paddling.
In the BCS category, the Flamenco Rosas boat had a great festival finishing 2nd, only surpassed by Hit International II, made up of paddlers from the USA and Canada.
The Dragon Boat festival is just one of the many and varied cultural activities that take place in San Pedro all year round and help to make it a great place for holidays and to live.
