Aguilas provides advice for dealing with high temperatures
Alerts for high temperatures have been issued in southern Murcia this week

Murcia weather warnings, Wednesday July 31
A heatwave is sweeping through the Region of Murcia, and the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has declared a yellow alert for high temperatures in Águilas and the south of the Region for today, Monday July 29 and tomorrow, Tuesday 30, and also an orange alert for Wednesday July 31.
The Town Hall in Águilas says, “Excessive heat can alter our vital functions when the body is unable to compensate for variations in body temperature and cause health problems such as cramps, dehydration, sunstroke or heat stroke.”
They continue, “It is essential to develop preventive attitudes to this significant increase in temperatures.”
With that in mind they have issued a series of recommendations:
- Whenever possible, avoid going out of the house during the central hours of the day (between 12 noon and 6pm)
- Drink plenty of fluids, even if you do not feel thirsty and regardless of your physical activity
- Reduce physical activity and outdoor sports in the middle of the day
- Eat light meals
- Stay in air-conditioned or shaded areas as much as possible
- Wear light-coloured, loose-fitting, light-coloured clothing made of natural fabrics, a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen
- Keep food in the refrigerator and always keep an eye on hygienic conservation measures
- When parking your car, do not leave children, the elderly or pets inside with the windows closed
- Pay special attention to people at higher risk (children, the elderly, pregnant women and the chronically ill)
