Aguilas will install sun shades in busiest tourist areas
The Shade Plan aims to make Águilas town centre cooler and more comfortable during the summer months

In anticipation of several months of sky-high temperatures ahead, Águilas Town Hall has embarked on a cool initiative, aptly named the ‘Shade Plan’, to transform the urban centre into a fresher, more-comfortable area.
The Plan involves a comprehensive study of the town’s main shade needs, particularly in areas with high tourist traffic. By identifying these hotspots and implementing suitable shading systems, Águilas council aims to provide much-needed relief from the heat for both residents and visitors alike.
It’s a creative approach to adapting to climate change, one that recognises the importance of creating pleasant and comfortable public spaces.
Part of its commitment to sustainable tourism development, this exciting project is financed by the European Union’s Next Generation Fund within the “Discover Águilas” framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
According to the council, “the installation of shaded areas in the town centre would help combat high temperatures and at the same time make the areas more pleasant for foot traffic.”
