The music of Juan Crisóstomo de Arriaga at the Town Hall of Los Alcázares

The 2026 “Intermezzo” series of free classical chamber music concerts, the seventh time it has been organized, continues in the Salón de Plenos of the Town Hall on Sunday 12^th April with a selection of pieces from the 19th century by Juan Crisóstomo de Arriaga.

The third concert in the season is given by the Sine Tempore ensemble, which was founded by Darlin Dyle, and musicians from the Region of Murcia Symphony Orchestra (OSRM). Both Dyle and Desislava Cvetkova play violin and are accompanied by Lesster F. Mejias (viola) and Anastasia Laskova (cello) as they remember the music of Arriaga, sometimes referred to as “The Spanish Mozart”, who died shortly before his 20^th birthday in 1826.

His early demise, like that of Mozart at the slightly riper age of 35, has left critics wondering ever since what he might have achieved had he lived longer. By the time he died he had demonstrated his inventive melodies and depth of expression, penning music of great maturity among which the most impressive are the three string quartets being performed in Los Alcázres. These were the only compositions published during his lifetime and were written when Arriaga was a mere 17 years old.

These concerts are generally extremely well attended, so make sure you arrive in plenty of time to guarantee yourself a seat!
