Dates revealed for when San Javier beaches will have lifeguards on duty
Safe summer fun is guaranteed as lifeguards return to San Javier beaches on June 15
San Javier's stunning beaches will be under the watchful eyes of trained lifeguards from June 15 to September 15, a period that the Town Hall may extend if tourist demand warrants it. Each day, lifeguards will be on duty between 11am and 7pm, ensuring the utmost safety for beachgoers.
San Javier is home to an impressive coastline divided between Santiago de la Ribera and La Manga del Mar Menor, sporting unique shorelines touching both the Mar Menor and Mediterranean waters. Given the importance of these vital services in securing tourism accolades like the Q for Quality and Blue Flag awards, selecting a reliable lifeguard provider is paramount.
Indeed, the Town Council recently secured a contract with Ambumar for just over one and a half million euros to handle lifeguarding and rescue duties for the next two years.
January marked a milestone for San Javier's tourism sector when Mayor José Miguel Luengo accepted 11 Qs for Tourism Quality and S for Tourism Sustainability, recognising the outstanding achievements of eleven beaches in Santiago de la Ribera and La Manga del Mar Menor.
Awarded by the Institute for Tourism Quality of Spain, ICTE, these prestigious titles celebrate businesses and organisations consistently exceeding global benchmarks for quality, safety and sustainability. Adding to the pride, San Javier earned two more Qs and Ss for its Tourism offices.
"These badges offer more quality. You need to have selective trash bins, bicycle parking, assure tourists that they are smoke-free beaches... It is necessary to point out that we have collected the 11 Qs and Ss on all the beaches we can opt for," said Estíbaliz Masegosa, Councillor for Beaches.
But the recognition extends beyond basic rescue and lifeguard services, as San Javier’s beaches also boast strong Wi-Fi, canoes, jet skis and other services throughout the summer season.
