Discover Spain's largest natural labyrinth in Murcia - and it's free to explore
Explore an enchanting cypress hedge maze in Cartagena with easy trails for all ages and stunning views
If you’re after a day out that’s a bit different, the Region of Murcia has a hidden gem you might not know about yet - Spain’s largest natural labyrinth. Nestled in Cartagena’s Rafael de la Cerda Leisure Park in Tentegorra, this sprawling maze is made up of hundreds of Leyland cypress trees grown to around two metres tall, creating a green labyrinth that's as beautiful as it is challenging.Owned by the Taibilla Canals Association, the maze is more than just a place to get lost. According to the Murcia Region Tourism website, there are 12 themed gates along the way, each representing a sign of the zodiac, adding a whimsical puzzle element to your adventure. Whether you fancy a gentle stroll or a tougher test of navigation, the labyrinth offers two routes to take: one easy and one more demanding.
Your goal is to find the central viewpoint, a tower from which you can admire the maze’s twisting pattern and the surrounding landscape. It can take anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour to make it to the centre and back, depending on your route and how much you stop to take in the sights.
One visitor described the experience as “like stepping into a real-life Alice in Wonderland,” recommending that you “get lost, enjoy the lovely environment and snap some great photos.” Its interactive design and beautiful setting make it a perfect outdoor outing for families, groups of friends, or anyone looking to unwind while engaging their brain.
And the best news? Entry to this extraordinary maze is completely free, making it an easy choice for a memorable day out in the Murcia sun. After you’ve conquered the labyrinth, the leisure park itself offers plenty more outdoor activities to enjoy, making it well worth a trip.
Whether you want a peaceful escape or a fun challenge, the natural labyrinth in Tentegorra is a must-see for locals and visitors alike. It’s a unique spot where nature, culture, and a touch of mystery come together in one green, leafy puzzle.
