The people and businesses of Águilas now have their own smart city app
The municipality of Águilas has presented its very own City App, called ‘Águilas Handy’, which townsfolk can download on their phones to “enhance the life and the commercial and service fabric of the municipality”.
The idea of the Águilas Handy app is that it will allow local businessowners to promote their businesses through the geopositioning system, telling app users which shops are closest to their location. Initially, around 175 establishments belonging to the Association of Traders and Industrialists of Águilas (ACIA) will be on the app, although the aim is to increase this number. The association hopes to get 30% of the people of Águilas, more than 10,000 people, to download and use the app.
Not only will users be able to see the list of shops and services available near them in Águilas, but also to contact them, find out how to get there and find out their what daily offers and deals they have on. In short, the app is designed to turn the town of Águilas into a ‘smart city’, offering all the relevant useful information about the town and its businesses, pharmacies and other content.
Of course, the final aim of the ACIA, which has helped to develop with European funding from the Directorate General for the Promotion of Trade, Business Innovation and Craft Industries and Trades of the Region of Murcia and the Águilas Town Council, is to increase the number of sales that local shops make, strengthening the town’s economy.
