Typical Spanish belenes: Where to see Christmas nativity scenes in Águilas
This Christmas, you can take a walk around Águilas to see 19 different belenes
For the Christmas season 2024, the Asociación Belenista de Águilas has organised a Route of Nativity Scenes around the town, while the Association of Housewives, Consumers and Users is running a Nativity Scene Competition. both of which have been organised in collaboration with the Águilas Town Council.
At Christmas in Spain, it is typical for homes, businesses and organisations to erect a ‘belén’ – a model showing a scene of the baby Jesus being born in a manger. Some of these can grow to be truly extraordinary in size and detail, and it is a feature of many people’s Christmas to go and see their local belenes.
The prize-giving ceremony for the Águilas Nativity Scene Competition will take place on Wednesday December 18 at 7pm in the Casa de la Cultura and prizes will be awarded for belenes by schools, families and exhibition centres.
