When are the public holidays in Spain during Easter 2026?
This year, Holy Week in Spain includes several public holidays during which businesses and schools will be closed

Christmas and New Year feel like a distant memory at this stage and most of us are probably ready for a bit of a break. The good news is that we don’t have very long to wait as one of the biggest celebrations on the Spanish calendar, Holy Week, is just around the corner.
Holy Week, or Semana Santa, is marked by religious processions, family gatherings and plenty of traditional sweets such as torrijas, pestiños and buñuelos. It is also one of the few times in spring when schools close and many businesses shut their doors, giving people the chance to travel or simply enjoy a long weekend.
Here is the full Easter holiday calendar for 2026:
- Palm Sunday: Sunday March 29, 2026
- Holy Monday: Monday March 30, 2026
- Holy Tuesday: Tuesday March 31, 2026
- Holy Wednesday: Wednesday April 1, 2026
- Maundy Thursday: Thursday April 2, 2026
- Good Friday: Friday April 3, 2026
- Holy Saturday: Saturday April 4, 2026
- Easter Sunday: Sunday April 5, 2026
- Easter Monday: Monday April 6, 2026
Good Friday, which falls on Friday April 3, is a national public holiday and cannot be moved, so it applies across all autonomous communities. That guarantees a three day weekend everywhere in Spain.
Maundy Thursday on Thursday April 2 is slightly different, since it’s a public holiday that regions can move if they want. In 2026, it will be observed in every region except the Valencian Community and Catalonia. In those two regions, Maundy Thursday will be a normal working day and instead Easter Monday, April 6, will be a public holiday.
