Storms, hail and cooler air on the way: Alicante weather forecast August 20-23
After several days of hot and humid weather, thunderstorms could bring heavy showers, hail and very strong winds to parts of Alicante Province before temperatures fall

The past few days have been hot and humid once again across Alicante Province, with the combination of heat and humidity making conditions particularly uncomfortable.
There could finally be some relief on the way, with showers and thunderstorms expected on Thursday and temperatures falling across much of the province. The storms could bring heavy rain, hail and very strong gusts of wind, particularly in the north, and while the weekend will be calmer in some areas, there is still a chance of showers and thunderstorms inland.
Here is the daily breakdown for Alicante Province from Thursday, August 20 to Sunday, August 23:
Thursday August 20
Thursday is likely to bring the biggest change in the weather, with cloudy intervals and showers and thunderstorms expected across parts of Alicante Province. The storms could be locally strong and may bring hail and very strong wind gusts, with the north of the province particularly at risk.
Temperatures will fall, although it will remain very hot in some areas, with highs of 38°C in Elche and Orihuela, 37°C in Alicante city, 36°C in Dénia and 34°C in Alcoy.
Winds will be generally light, occasionally moderate, from the south and southwest.
Friday August 21
Friday should be a much quieter day, with mostly clear skies and some cloud developing inland from around midday. Temperatures will fall across the province, bringing a welcome break from the higher temperatures of recent days. Elche and Orihuela will still reach 36°C, while Alicante city is forecast to reach 34°C, Alcoy 32°C and Dénia 32°C.
Winds will be light and variable at the start and end of the day, becoming westerly inland and southerly along the coast around midday.
Saturday August 22
Saturday brings a little more uncertainty, particularly inland. There will be cloudy intervals, with more cloud expected across the northern half of the province, where showers and thunderstorms are possible. Temperatures will fall again, with highs of 33°C in Orihuela, 32°C in Alicante, Elche and Dénia, and 31°C in Alcoy.
Winds will be light and variable, tending towards an easterly direction around midday.
Sunday August 23
Sunday will continue with some unsettled weather inland, with cloudy intervals and showers possible, some of which could be accompanied by thunderstorms. Temperatures will be fairly similar to Saturday, with highs of 33°C in Elche and Orihuela, 32°C in Alicante and 31°C in Dénia and Alcoy.
Winds will remain light and variable, becoming more southerly and easterly after lunch.
With storms in the forecast, particularly inland and in the north of the province, it is worth keeping an eye on updates from your local town hall and other official sources in case any weather alerts are issued. If you live near a rambla or river, take particular care, as heavy rain can fall over a short period of time during summer storms and water levels can rise quickly.
Minimum and maximum temperatures in Alicante this week:

Thursday August 20: Min 21ºC; Max 38ºC
Friday August 21: Min 19ºC; Max 36ºC
Saturday August 22: Min 18ºC; Max 33ºC
Sunday August 23: Min 18ºC; Max 33ºC
